What is Copilot in Forms?

Microsoft Forms is a web-based Microsoft 365 application focusing on conducting surveys, quizzes, and polls. For users with an eligible Copilot license, Copilot in Forms helps users get AI-powered assistance to draft, review, and send, and analyze their results.

What can Copilot in Forms do?

Copilot makes it easy to draft surveys, quizzes, and other forms from scratch via the Draft with Copilot feature. Authors can simply type a prompt using natural language, and watch Copilot generate a form draft to get started.

Copilot can also help review the form and provide suggestions, such as improving content, recommending styles and settings, and more. Authors can also ask Copilot to help via a handy prompt box at the top of their form. On the form canvas, features like Rewrite with Copilot, Add with Copilot, or Answer Explanations (for quizzes) help the user continue building their form. ​​​​​​​

What are intended uses of Copilot in Forms?

Copilot in Forms is intended help users create their forms effectively and efficiently with AI-powered assistance end-to-end - from drafting to data analysis.

Copilot must not be used to generate the following types of content:

  • Harmful or disrespectful content.

  • Creation of possibly copyrighted material.

  • Content related to legal, medical or financial advice.

  • Employment-related situations such as evaluating performance.

  • Creation of phishing forms.

Is Copilot-generated content always factual?

Copilot in Forms was trained in the past on data for the Internet and so, it is not up to date on the latest facts and news headlines. Copilot does not search online for additional data and only uses the data it's been trained on. As a result, content may be generated that is no longer correct in the present time. Copilot may also generate content that sounds convincing but is incomplete, inaccurate, or inappropriate. Use your own judgment and double check the facts before making decisions or acting based on Copilot's responses.

How was Copilot in Forms evaluated?

Copilot in Forms was evaluated through both manual and automated testing in order to provide appropriate drafts.

Microsoft Forms collects performance and usage data and users can provide feedback to share their experiences and report inaccurate drafts. The feedback will help improve Copilot in Forms.

What are the limitations of Copilot in Forms? How can users minimize the impact of Copilot's limitations when using the system?

Copilot in Forms is available in a variety of languages (Supported languages for Microsoft 365 Copilot - Microsoft Support). Support and quality in additional languages are expected to be improved over time.

Users should review the generated draft and make necessary modifications before sending it out to respondents. Use appropriate judgement before using content generated by Copilot.

Copilot does not perform online searches when generating suggestions. Care should be taken to review suggestions, even if they sound convincing.

What operational factors and settings allow for effective and responsible use of Copilot in Forms?

There is an input length limit and frequency limit to avoid abusing the system and a valid Microsoft 365 Copilot license is required to use the Copilot in Forms feature.

Filters are in place to minimize the chances that inappropriate content will be generated.

Users may report inappropriate or non-compliant suggestions.

Can I delete my Copilot history?

Yes. Navigate to myaccount.microsoft.com, go to Settings & Privacy, select the Privacy tab, and then Copilot interaction history. There will be a button to clear your history. For details on this feature, go to Delete your Microsoft Copilot interaction history. Copilot in Forms data will also be removed along with Copilot data in other Microsoft 365 applications.
