Note: Channel Agent for Teams channels is currently in public preview, and features are likely to change. To learn more about Microsoft's public preview program, see Get early access to new features in Microsoft Teams.
Once you’ve created Channel Agent in a channel, you can add the agent to other conversations in Teams, like Teams meetings and group chats.
Tip:  We recommend adding your Channel Agent to recurring Teams meetings related to the project.
Add Channel Agent to a Teams chat
-
In Teams, navigate to a Teams chat that you wish to add your Channel Agent to, like a Teams meeting or group chat.
-
On the conversation’s menu bar, selectÂ
Add people, agents, and bots. -
In the drop-down menu, selectÂ
 Add agents and bots. -
In the search box, enter the name of your Channel Agent, and then select it from the search results.
-
The agent is added to the Teams conversation as a participant.
-
Add Channel Agent to a Teams chat or meeting through agent settings
-
Hover on the agent's icon to click on the share button.
-
Alternatively, in the agent's channel, selectÂ
Add agents, and bots. Then right click on the agent's icon to find the share button. -
After clicking on the share button, either search up the name of the Teams chat or meeting you want to add the agent to or copy the share link to paste in the Teams chat or meeting you want to add the agent to.
-
After sharing the agent or pasting the share link in the desired Teams chat or meeting, be sure to navigate to the specified Teams chat or meeting to formally add the agent to the conversation through the Add to this chat button.
-
The agent will be added to the Teams chat or meeting as a participant and a confirmation message will appear.
What happens when you add Channel Agent to a Teams conversation
Adding Channel Agent to a Teams meeting
-
When you add Channel Agent to a Teams meeting, people can ask questions to the agent. Also, the agent uses the meeting’s transcripts as a knowledge source by generating summaries and adding them to its knowledge base.
Adding Channel Agent to a group chat
-
Adding Channel Agent to a group chat allows people to ask questions to the agent in the group chat, but the group chat’s messages aren’t used as a knowledge source for the agent.
-
Messages in a group chat can be forwarded to the channel that created the agent. Once the messages are shared to the channel, the shared information can be accessed by the agent.
Limitations of adding Channel Agent to other locationsÂ
-
Channel Agent can’t be added to other channels, 1:1 chats, or private chats.
-
Adding Channel Agent to a meeting is restricted to people who are members of the channel and have full access to the meeting’s chat history. Organizer/co-organizer/presenter restrictions apply.
