You can add multiple accounts to Microsoft 365 apps such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and OneNote, and access files if you have the necessary permissions.
If any of the accounts signed into a Microsoft 365 app has a Copilot license, you may also be able to use Copilot with files owned by other accounts.
Note: You could have a Microsoft 365 Copilot license through your work or school, a Copilot Pro license you purchased at home, or a license through your Microsoft 365 Family or Personal account.
Microsoft accounts with a Copilot license
If your Microsoft account has a Copilot Pro subscription or a Microsoft 365 Personal or Family subscription, and you added one or more additional Microsoft accounts to your app(s), you'll be able to access the files from the other Microsoft accounts and use Copilot on those files, even if those accounts don't have a Copilot license.
When multiple accounts are signed into the same application, and the only account that has access to Copilot is a Microsoft 365 Personal or Family subscription, AI credits will be counted whenever Copilot is used on any open document.
Note: AI benefits are only available to the subscription owner and cannot be shared with additional Microsoft 365 Family members. Visit Understanding AI credits for more on how AI credits are counted.
Work or school accounts with a Copilot license
If your work or school account has a Copilot license, you can use Copilot features on files owned by that work or school organization, or files owned by other Microsoft accounts if you have permissions to open those files with one of the signed in accounts.
For more information on multiple account access to Copilot for work and school documents, see here.
Important: Multiple account access to Copilot is available for some apps on specific devices with more coming soon. See the full list of available apps here.
