Restore your access to Microsoft Teams
Whenever your access to Teams is challenged, you may see a sign-in banner requesting that you Sign in to re-authenticate and regain access.
If Teams asks you to sign in again, you won't be able to chat, call or join meetings until you do. Follow the steps below to restore access.
Fix the problem
-
Select the Sign in banner or button.
-
In the window that opens, enter your sign-in info and complete any prompts, such as multi-factor authentication (MFA).
-
If you don't see the sign in button, check the notification area on the taskbar (near the clock). Look for the Teams icon with a badge - for example, a dot or exclamation mark. Select the Teams icon to open the sign-in window.
-
If the sign-in window still doesn't open, quit and reopen Teams. In the notification area, select the Teams icon, and then select Quit. Open teams again.
-
After you sign in, the banner should disappear, and you should be able to use Teams normally. If you see the banner again, repeat the steps above or contact your IT administrator for assistance.
Help prevent the issue
-
Connect to the network your organization requires before you open Teams. For example, if your organization requires a VPN, connect to the VPN first.Â
-
Try to avoid switching between different networks while Teams is open. For example, if you are using a laptop, don't disconnect from your office Wi-Fi and connect to a public Wi-Fi without signing out of Teams first.
-
Keep Teams up to date. In Teams, select your profile picture, then select Check for updates (if available).Â
Why this happens
Teams may ask you to sign in again for security reasons. For example:
-
Your organization requires a specific network (for example, a VPN), and you are not connected.
-
Your organization detects a sign-in risk and asks you to verify your identity (for example, with your phone).
-
A password breach has occurred, and your organization requires you to change your password right away.
-
Your device does not meet your organization’s requirements, so you must verify your identity before you can continue.
