The instructions on this page apply only to Surface Pro 13-inch Flex Keyboard and the Surface Pro 12-inch Keyboard. If you have a different keyboard for Surface, you can’t update it using this software.

Check for Updates
To check the update status on your keyboard, use the Surface app.

With your keyboard connected, select Start , search for Surface, then select the app from the list of results.
Note: If you don't see the Surface app in the search results, you might need to download the Surface app from Microsoft Store.

From the choice of connected accessories at the bottom of the app, select your keyboard.

Expand Firmware Update to view the currently installed firmware and see whether it is up to date. If needed, select the option to update the device.
Disconnect and reconnect your Surface device
After installing the update, you must disconnect the Surface device from the keyboard and reconnect it.
