Copilot in PowerPoint helps you create and deliver engaging presentations. You can also use Copilot to generate slides, insert content, summarize your presentation, and more. This article guides you through basic tasks using Copilot in PowerPoint with your keyboard and a screen reader.

Create a new presentation with Copilot in PowerPoint

Open the PowerPoint app, the focus is on the Create with Copilot button on the canvas. Press Enter to open the Create a presentation menu item.
Note: In PowerPoint on the web, the focus might go to the first slide. To navigate to the Copilot menu, press Ctrl+F6 until you're on the Copilot button, and then press Enter. Use the arrow keys to navigate the menu and press Enter to open the Create a presentation menu item.

Type a prompt to describe the presentation, for example, “Create a presentation for screen readers,” and press Enter. Copilot generates topics based on your prompt.

To edit the prompt, press the Tab key until you hear “Edit prompt button,” and then press Enter. Make your changes, then press Enter.

To work with the generated topics, press the Tab and arrow keys.

To reorder a topic, press the Tab key until you hear “Reorder button,” and then press Enter.

To delete a topic, press the Tab key until you hear “Delete button,” and then press Enter.

To add a new topic, press the Tab key until you hear “Add new topic button,” and then press Enter.

To update image sources, press the Tab key until you hear “Image settings button,” and then press Enter.

Press the Tab key once and use Up or Down arrow key to choose which sources Copilot can use images from.

When you're ready, press the Tab key until you hear “Generate slides button,” and then press Enter.

To keep the generated slides, press the Tab key until you hear “Keep it button,” and then press Enter. To move through slides, use the Up and Down arrow keys.
Note: If you don't like the generated slides, press the Tab key until you hear “Discard button,” and then press Enter.

To interact with slide content, press F6 to move focus to the Slide pane.

Use the Tab key to move between different elements on each slide, such as text, images, and buttons.
Create a presentation from a Word document
Copilot in PowerPoint can help you to create a presentation from an existing Word document. Provide Copilot in PowerPoint with the link to your Word document, and it will generate a presentation for you.

In PowerPoint, press the Tab key until you hear “Create with Copilot,” and then press Enter.

Type “/” and paste the document link or type the document name.
Tip: To copy the document link, open the Word document, go to the Share tray, and copy the URL from there.

Use the Up or Down arrow key to select the result, then press Enter. Copilot will analyze the content and generate topics.

Follow the same steps as in Create a new presentation with Copilot in PowerPoint to review topics and generate slides.
Insert a new slide using Copilot prompt

Navigate to the slide where you want to add a new slide.

Press Alt+H, FX to open the Copilot pane.

In the edit field, type a prompt like “Add a slide about accessibility features,” and then press Enter.
Copilot will generate the slide based on your prompt.
Insert a picture using Copilot prompt

Navigate to the slide where you want to insert the picture.

Press Alt+H, FX to open the Copilot pane.

In the edit field, type a prompt like “Add an image to the current slide,” and press Enter.
Tip: If Copilot suggests multiple images, press Shift+Tab to move to the Chat messages list, use the Up arrow key to find the message with the images, and press Enter to open it. Then, use the Tab key to select the image you want, and press Enter to insert it. You can also specify the image in your prompt. For example, “Add an image of a book.”
Summarize the presentation using Copilot prompt

Open the presentation you want to summarize. Press Alt+H, FX to open the Copilot pane.

In the edit field, type “Summarize this presentation,” and press Enter.

Press Shift+Tab to go to the Chat messages list, then press the Up arrow key to navigate to the summary message and press Enter.

Press the Tab key until you hear “Copy button,” and then press Enter to copy the summary.
