If a OneNote Class Notebook opens in a read-only state in Microsoft Teams, start with the quick checks below. Some areas, such as Content Library or Collaboration Space, may also be read-only because of notebook permissions.
First check: close the Class Notebook tab in Teams and reopen it. Then make sure the toolbar shows Editing instead of Viewing.
Switch to Editing mode
-
Open the Class Notebook in Teams.
-
In the OneNote toolbar, select Editing if the notebook is currently in viewing mode.
-
Try editing a page in your private notebook section. If you still cannot edit, continue with the permission checks below.
Understand notebook permissions
Students can edit their private notebook by default. Content Library is read-only for students, and Collaboration Space can be locked by the educator.
If you are a student, ask your educator whether the page or section has been set to read-only.
Re-add missing default sections
If Welcome, Collaboration Space, or Content Library is missing, use fix Class Notebook when Welcome, Collaboration Space, or Content Library are missing instead of manually recreating the sections in the desktop app.
