This message appears when you exceed the maximum memory or file size limit for a Data Model. In the 32-bit version of Office, the maximum file size for a workbook that contains a Data Model is 2 GB, and the maximum memory that a workbook can consume is 4 GB. If you exceed either of these limits, you can't save the workbook.
If this error occurs, reduce the number of tables, rows, or columns that you link, import, or copy to the Power Pivot window before saving the workbook. You can do this in two ways:
- Delete any tables you don't need from the Data Model by using the Power Pivot window. To open the window, see Start Power Pivot in Microsoft Excel add-in.
- Re-import data, setting filters to reduce the number of rows added to the Data Model. To avoid confusion in the Data Model, delete the existing table before re-importing it. You need to manually create relationships to establish connections in the model. For more information, see Create a relationship between tables in Excel or Create relationships in Diagram View in Power Pivot.
Filtering data that you already imported (as described in Filter Data in DAX Formulas) isn't a solution for this error. Filtering imported data only affects how data is displayed.
