Applies ToOneNote for Windows 10

Important: OneNote for Windows 10 support will end in  October 2025. To keep up to date with the latest OneNote features, get OneNote from the Microsoft Store or as part of Microsoft 365.

For OneNote for Windows 10 on the desktop, you can use more than one Microsoft account.

Add a new account

When you first start OneNote for Windows 10, you're prompted to sign in with your preferred Microsoft account. You can add additional accounts at any time and then open notebooks from these accounts.

  1. From OneNote for Windows 10 on your desktop, click the Settings and More button Settings And More Button located in the top right corner, and then click Settings.

  2. In the Settings pane, click or tap Accounts.

  3. In the Accounts window, click or tap + Add account.

  4. Select the type of account you want to add to OneNote.

    • Select Microsoft account to add an additional Hotmail, Live.com, or Outlook.com account.

    • Select Work or school account to add an organizational account.

  5. Enter your username and password for the account you selected, and then follow the prompts to sign in.

Repeat the preceding steps for each additional account that you want to use with OneNote. As soon as you're signed into all of the accounts you want, you can open your notebooks from these accounts.

Note: You can also sign into a different Microsoft account when opening notebooks. From your list of notebooks, click or tap More Notebooks, and then click + Add account.

Remove an account

If you no longer need to use a particular account with OneNote, you can sign out of it.

Do the following:

  1. Click the Settings and More button Settings And More Button located in the top right corner, and then click Settings.

  2. In the Settings pane, click or tap Accounts.

  3. In the Account window, select the account you want to remove, and then click or tap Sign out.

Repeat the preceding steps for any additional accounts that you want to remove from OneNote.
