The December 13, 2022 update for Windows 11, version 22H2 includes cumulative reliability improvements in .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8.1. We recommend that you apply this update as part of your regular maintenance routines. Before you install this update, see the Prerequisites and Restart requirement sections.

Summary

Security Improvements

This security update addresses a vulnerability where restricted mode is triggered for the parsing of XPS files, preventing gadget chains which could allow remote code execution on an affected system. For more information please see CVE-2022-41089.

Resolution

This issue has been resolved in the June 13, 2023 Security and Quality Rollup and Cumulative Update.

If you used any workaround or mitigations for this issue, they are no longer needed, and we recommend you remove them. To remove workaround review the workaround or alternative workaround which was applied for instructions. The workaround should be removed prior to installing the June update.
