Camera app shows error "0xA00F4244 NoCamerasAreAttached"
Applies To
The error 0xA00F4244 (NoCamerasAreAttached) appears when Windows fails to recognize a built‑in or external camera. This issue is most commonly linked to camera driver problems, such as outdated, missing, or corrupted drivers.
Updating the camera driver is often the quickest way to resolve the error and get the camera working again.
The Windows Camera troubleshooter in the Get Help app is another useful tool. It contains automated steps that can resolve most camera-related issues.
However, if the troubleshooter is unable to rectify the problem, use the following options to try to fix the problem:
Attempt to use Windows Update to see if there's an updated driver for the camera device. To update the drivers using Windows Update, see the following article:
If there wasn't an updated driver on Windows Update, or the updated driver on Windows Update didn't fix the problem, try using the generic USB Video Device driver:
-
Right-click Start  and then select Device Manager.
-
In the Device Manager window that opens, select the arrow next to Cameras to expand the category.
-
Under the expanded Cameras category, right-click the camera having the issue and select Properties.
-
In the camera Properties window that opens, select the Driver tab.
-
In the Driver tab, select the Update driver button.
-
In the Update Drivers window that opens, select Browse my computer for drivers.
-
In the Browse for drivers on your computer window, select Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer.
-
In the Select the device driver you want to install for this hardware window, select USB Video Device, and then select the Next button to install the driver.
-
In the Windows has successfully updated your drivers window, select Close.
Another option to try to fix the problem is to download an updated camera driver directly from the camera manufacturer's website. The first step in this process is to try to determine the camera's manufacturer and model number:
-
Right-click Start  and then select Device Manager.
-
In the Device Manager window that opens, select the arrow next to Cameras to expand the category.
-
Under the expanded Cameras category, right-click the camera having the issue and select Properties.
-
In the camera Properties window that opens, under the General tab, determine the manufacturer's name next to Manufacturer. The window might also contain information about the specific camera model or name.
Note: If the manufacturer is listed as Microsoft, the camera might be using a generic driver. Refer to the documentation that came with the camera for more information on the camera manufacturer. If the camera is built into a Windows device, refer to the Windows device's documentation or the Windows device manufacturer's website.
Once the camera manufacturer and model/name are determined, use the information to find the manufacturer's website and driver download page via a search engine. For more information, including how to install the driver downloaded from the manufacturer's website, see the Update driver manually section in the following article:
