​​​​​​​Project Manager agent (preview) works alongside your team to help you get work done faster. It can create your plan based on goals, execute tasks, and act on feedback.

Who can access Project Manager agent?

To access Project Manager agent, you need a Microsoft 365 Copilot license.

Users that additionally have a Planner Plan 1, Planner and Project Plan 3, or Planner and Project Plan 5 license will have access to premium functionalities.

Users without a Microsoft 365 Copilot license can collaborate on plans, but can't interact with the Project Manager agent, such as assigning tasks to it.

How to access Project Manager agent

Project Manager agent is now available in:

  1. All existing premium plans (shared with a Microsoft 365 Group)

  2. New plans created using Plan with Project Manager or any of the Project Manager agent templates such as Research with Project Manager to get started with a specific intent.

You can access it in two ways:

Option 1: Existing Premium Plans (New!)

If you already have a shared premium plan in Planner, Project Manager agent is enabled by default.

  1. Open any premium plan shared with a Microsoft 365 Group.

  2. Assign a task to Project Manager agent to start using the AI assistant.

  3. Or go to the Goals tab to generate tasks from a high-level goal.

Note: The Project Manager homepage has been removed. Use the Goals tab as your new hub for goal-to-task generation.

Option 2: Create a New Plan with Project Manager agent

  1. Open Planner in Teams.

  2. Select + New plan in the bottom left of the page.

  3. Choose Plan with Project Manager to get started with a blank plan, or any of the Project Manager templates such as Research with Project Manager to get started with a specific intent.

  4. Name your plan and select the relevant group to add to the plan.

  5. Select Create.

From here, you can use the project manager to generate tasks for your plan and assign the project manager to tasks for execution.

Board view 

The Board view provides a detailed look at the Project Manager agent’s progress. 

  1. Select the Group by dropdown in the top right corner of Board view.

  2. Choose Project Manager in the dropdown.

  3. Tasks will be sorted by Project Manager agent's progress:

    1. All incomplete tasks: Tasks not assigned to the Project Manager agent.

    2. Assign to Project Manager: Tasks that are assigned to the Project Manager agent but have not yet begun.

    3. Needs your input: Tasks for which the Project Manager agent needs additional information to complete

    4. Ready for Review: Tasks that the Project Manager agent has completed execution on.

Goals tab

Within the Goals tab, you can now:

  1. Generate a list of tasks for each goal using Project Manager agent.

  2. Use the built-in file picker to add resources as context for Project Manager agent. By providing these input sources, the Project Manager agent delivers more accurate and contextually relevant responses.
