In Microsoft Teams Free you can make a one-to-one or group call with up to 20 participants from any of your chats. 

Tip: If you want to host a call with more than 20 participants, create an instant meeting or schedule a meeting.

To start a call:

  1. From the Chat tab, select the chat with the person you want to call. If you’re not currently in a chat with someone, you’ll need to start a chat to call them.

  2. From the top of your chat, tap to start either a Video call  Video call button or Audio call  Audio call button. If you start the call from a group chat, you will be asked to confirm that you want to call everyone in the group.

Note: If the Video  Video call button or Audio  Audio call buttoncall button isn't available, check to see if you or your one-on-one contact need to accept an invite. Once accepted, you can move forward with your call. 

What you can do during a call

Video off button

Turn Video on or off.

Microphone button

Turn Microphone on or off. 

Speaker on/off button

Turn Speaker phone on or off.

More button

From the More Microsoft Teams more options icon menu, you can:

  • Go to your Chat Teams Chat Tab icon during the call

  • With People Show participants button you can have up to 20 participants on the same call from your group chat. If you'd like more participants, create a meeting.

  • With Share Teams share screen iconyou can Share photo photo camera black outline or Share screen Teams share screen icon

  • Change the call's Views Change meeting views button

Other options under More Microsoft Teams more options icon include:​​​​​​​

  • Change background Background settings

  • Show live captions Closed captions button​​​​​​​

  • Don't show chat bubbles Teams don't show chat bubbles button.

  • Put call  on hold Hold button

  •  Turn off incoming video Turn video off button

End call button

End or leave the call​​
