The Project Manager agent (preview) in Microsoft Planner works with Microsoft Loop to automatically create collaborative workspaces for your plans. Each workspace is backed by a SharePoint folder, making it easy to organize tasks, share content, and stay aligned with your team.

Note: Project Manager agent is currently rolling out to customers. Learn more about it in Frequently asked questions about Project Manager agent.

SharePoint folder

When a Project Manager plan is created, a new Microsoft SharePoint folder is also created and linked to the plan's Microsoft 365 group. This folder will store all Project Manager agent task output in individual Loop pages and resources files. To access the SharePoint folder via the Planner app:

  1. Select SharePoint in the plan header.

Tip: If you don't see SharePoint in the main header, select the overflow (...) menu, and then select SharePoint.

  2. You'll be navigated to the SharePoint folder associated with the plan where you can see all added files and loop outputs of Project Manager agent.

Microsoft 365 group ownership

The SharePoint folder that's created alongside the plan is owned by the same Microsoft 365 group that the plan is owned by. This means only members of that group will be able to access the SharePoint folder. If you'd like to give additional access to the folder, the intended users will need to be added to the group to gain access. Likewise, if you'd like to revoke access, the intended users will need to be removed from the group. Learn more about Microsoft 365 groups.

When a Microsoft 365 group is deleted, any associated SharePoint folder and plans will become inaccessible. If the group is restored within 30 days of deletion, the SharePoint folder and plan access will be restored as well. If a different group is added to the plan after the original group is deleted, all Loop pages and files associated with that plan will be removed.

Loop pages

A Loop page will be created within the plan's associated SharePoint folder for each task that the Project Manager agent executes. This page will contain the Project Manager agent's output and be accessible from both the SharePoint folder and task detail view for the associated task within Planner.

Within these pages, you can use features that are available in Loop, including:

  • Adding Loop components

  • Commenting

  • @ mentioning

  • And more!

Learn more about Loop capabilities.

Page deletion

Deleting a task in Planner won't automatically delete the associated Loop page. If you'd like to delete the associated page, you'll need to do so within SharePoint folder, itself.

  1. Navigate to the page within Loop.

  2. Select More options () in the top right of the page.

  3. Select Delete.

  4. Choose Delete in the confirmation pop-up.

Important: If you delete a Loop page associated with a task that hasn't been deleted in Planner, the Project Manager agent will no longer be able to execute that task. If you'd like the Project Manager agent to regenerate the page, you'll need to recreate the task and assign the new task to the Project Manager agent.
