Copilot is generally available to all users over the age of 18.

We have also expanded Copilot access to users between the age of 13 and 18, subject to minimum age requirements that vary by country or region. If your country or region is not listed, then the minimum age requirement to use Copilot is 13 years old.

Note: These restrictions apply regardless of parental consent or account management.

Additional age restrictions may apply to new or experimental features, including those released through Copilot Labs or to Copilot Pro subscribers.

Copilot users between 13 to 18 years old:

  • Do not get personalized experiences in Copilot. Read more about personalization.

  • Do not get shown personalized ads. Ads may still appear in Copilot, but they will not be personalized. Read more about personalized ads.

  • Do not have their conversations used for model training. Read more about model training.

How to control access to Copilot

If you and your family members use personal Microsoft Accounts to sign in to Copilot, you can use Microsoft Family Safety to block or set screen time limits.

You can also use the following mechanisms to control access to Copilot:

  • To block use of the Copilot app on your Windows, Xbox, or Android devices, use the Microsoft Family Safety app.

  • To block use of the Copilot app on your Apple devices, use Screen Time provided by Apple.

  • To block access to Copilot via your browser (for example, in Microsoft Edge), use applicable device-based or browser-based parental control settings to block access to 'copilot.microsoft.com'.

  • Many consumer internet routers offer configuration options to block specific domains, which you can also use to block any device on your network from accessing 'copilot.microsoft.com'. This will prevent access to Copilot on your home network.
