Using Image Generation in Microsoft Copilot
Microsoft Copilot has a built-in ability to create images from text-based prompts. Alternatively, you can also upload an image and ask Copilot to transform it.
Generating a new image in Copilot
To generate a new image, type a prompt that describes what you want. Be as specific as you can, for example: “Create a photorealistic image of a futuristic city skyline at sunset.” After submitting your prompt, Copilot will take a couple of minutes to generate your image.
Note: The more detailed your prompt, the better Copilot can generate images with specific art styles (e.g. realism, abstract, comic book, futuristic, etc.) or based on detailed descriptions of characters, moods, and settings.
Uploading an image into Copilot for editing
You can also upload an image you want changed to Copilot using the following steps:
-
Press the Open icon (+) and select Upload (the paperclip icon
). -
Use the file picker to navigate to and select the image you want to upload on your device. Once uploaded, the image will appear as an attachment in your chat session.
-
Type and submit a prompt that describes what you want Copilot to do with this image (For example: “remove the people in the background” or “change the setting to a forest”).
-
You can make further requests about the image within the same conversation.
Example prompts to use with image generation in Copilot
When creating new images in Copilot, here are some prompt ideas to get you started:
-
Create a realistic portrait: “Create a lifelike portrait of a serene woman with curly red hair, wearing a blue silk gown, and standing in front of a tranquil rose garden.”
-
Generate comic book sketches: “Generate a dynamic comic book scene featuring a heroic figure in a red and blue superhero costume while they’re flying through the night sky with the Chicago skyline in the background.”
-
Create fantasy art: “Produce an abstract piece of art that’s reminiscent of a dream, using swirling neon colors, floating orbs, and a sense of weightlessness.”
-
Illustrate a post-apocalyptic world: “Create a gritty and desolate post-apocalyptic landscape featuring a lone wanderer in tattered clothing, walking through a barren wasteland with remnants of a ruined city in the background, bathed in the eerie light of a setting sun.”
How Microsoft uses your images
Images generated or uploaded to Copilot are available for 30 days. After this time, images are deleted from our system. You can always delete them from your conversation history.
Images are used for the sole purpose by Copilot to help you have engaging conversations and make modifications to images based on your requests. Microsoft does not use any images for training or secondary use.
Limitations when uploading images
All images you upload for editing using Copilot Image Generation should be original images that you own or have the rights to use. Do not upload images that infringe third-party rights (including copyright, trademark, or publicity rights), violate the privacy of others, include depictions of individuals without consent, or otherwise violates the Microsoft Services Agreement and the Copilot Terms of Use.
