  • If you're not part of a family group, you will not see any family member.

  • If you do see a family listed, you may have been added previously.

You might be using a device that was previously configured under a Family group or still has Family safety settings applied. Follow the steps below to remove the settings.

If your device still enforces safety settings, perform a safety reset using following steps:

  1. On your computer keyboard, press and hold the Windows key followed by the R key to open the Run dialog box.

  2. Enter cmd, then select OK

  3. Copy or type the following into the command prompt box, followed by return or enter.schtasks /run /tn "Microsoft\Windows\Shell\FamilySafetyRefreshTask"

Adults with a Member role in a Family group

If you're part of a Microsoft Family group, the organizer (often a parent or guardian) has the ability to manage safety settings, including content filters and screen time. We understand this may not be ideal for adult members and are working to improve the experience.

As of now, only the family organizer can make changes to your safety settings. Please reach out to them and request that they disable the safety configurations for your account.

We hear your feedback and agree that adults should have greater control. We're actively working on a future update that will allow adult members to opt-in or opt-out of allowing organizers to manage their safety settings.
