Add a hardware device to a Windows device

Summary
Windows usually detects and installs new hardware automatically when you connect it. If a device isn’t added automatically, you can add it manually from Settings.
When to add a device manually
You may need to add a device manually if:

The device isn’t detected when you connect it.

The device uses Bluetooth or wireless pairing.
-
You’re setting up a new external accessory.
Add a hardware device in Windows 11

On the Windows device, select Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Devices .Open Devices

In the Bluetooth & devices > Devices window that opens, select the Add device button.

Follow the on‑screen instructions to finish adding the device.
Notes:Â

Make sure the device is turned on and, if required, in pairing mode.

Keep the device close to your PC during setup.
Support for Windows 10 has ended on October 14, 2025
After October 14, 2025, Microsoft will no longer provide free software updates from Windows Update, technical assistance, or security fixes for Windows 10. Your PC will still work, but we recommend moving to Windows 11.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​
