Setting up audio controls within Phone Link for your Android device

The Phone Link allows you to listen to and interact with your favorite audio player apps directly inside the Phone Link menu pane. Audio controls are available for Phone Link version 1.20041.75.0 or later, and we recommend making sure your version of Link to Windows is up to date.

On your Android device:

  • For any audio app on your device that you want to control from the Phone Link, make sure the individual app’s notifications are turned on.  To do this, go to Settings > Notifications > Select the audio app and turn Show notifications toggle On.

On your PC:

  1. In the Phone Link, go to Settings.

  2. Under Personalization, turn the toggle On for Show audio currently playing from my phone.

Note: You will need to have Notifications set up to access this toggle. If you have not yet done so, make sure to set up Notifications in the app.

  3. Once this toggle is on, you can start playing any of your favorite audio app from your Android device, and you will see the audio player show up in the Phone Link menu area.

  4. From this player, you can select Previous, Play/Pause, and Next track.

  5. If you would like to listen to audio from a different source, you can start playing that from your Android device and it will automatically switch in the Phone Link player. Use the dropdown to switch between two or more sources of audio as much as you’d like directly from the app.

Note: Some third-party apps aren't compatible and won't show up in the Phone Link app. If you have an audio app that isn't showing in Phone Link, please share it with us in the Feedback Hub app on your PC.

Tip: Audio will play from Android device, or any speakers connected to it, not from the PC. Some audio apps are unsupported.

How do I enable Wallpaper in Phone Link?

You can now sync your mobile device's wallpaper as the background in Phone Link. To enable this, go to Phone Link Settings > Features > Wallpaper, then toggle the switch On.

Why isn't my mobile device's wallpaper showing in Phone Link after I turned the feature on?

Phone Link currently supports only static wall papers - single, still images. Live, video, 3D, or dynamic wallpapers are not supported and will not appear in Phone Link.
