Important: Make sure you've obtained patient consent prior to recording the patient encounter using Microsoft Dragon Copilot. Your organization can give you guidance on securing patient consent in accordance with the relevant laws and organizational policies. If your patient doesn't give consent, you can still use Dragon Copilot to record after your patient interaction is over. To do so, start ambient recording and recap the encounter for Dragon Copilot.

Remarks

  • The ambient recording icon  ambient recording iconis available at the bottom of every tab.

  • Once you start recording, Dragon Copilot listens and records unobtrusively. Recording continues even if your device screen goes to sleep or if you lose your network connection.

  • Other apps that use your microphone can interrupt your recording. For example, if you're recording with your mobile phone and answer a call during the encounter, the recording pauses and must be restarted when you end the call. We recommend setting your mobile phone to 'Do not disturb' before you start recording.

  • You can also record a patient conversation in Spanish. For more information, see: Language settings.

Ambient recording - best practices

  • Put the recording device where Dragon Copilot can hear the conversation between you and your patient. Place it on a nearby surface, like a desk or table in the room.

  • You can stop and restart recording at any time. This is useful if, for example, you need to step out of the room for a bit or your patient asks for a sensitive topic to not be recorded. This is also required every time you switch languages in your patient conversation.

  • Begin with an introduction and include the patient’s preferred pronouns and the reason for the visit to help the AI write the note. For example: Casey Jenson, prefers they/them. They are here today for their annual physical.

  • Be conversational. Have a dialogue with the patient as normal. Dragon Copilot understands natural language, so you don't have to use robotic speech, commands or punctuation.

  • Use verbal cues. Dragon Copilot can't see you or your patient, so make sure you articulate what's happening. For example, specify location and laterality if the patient is being vague or uses gestures, articulate what exams you're performing and be explicit in your details.
