Work with prompts
Note:Â The availability of the features described in this document depends on your license and the configuration of your system. For more information, contact your administrator.
In addition to the out-of-the-box prompts that Microsoft Dragon Copilot provides, you can create your own prompts.
Important:Â Dragon Copilot is not designed or intended to be a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, treatment, or judgment and should not be used to replace or as a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, treatment or judgment. Microsoft does not warrant that Microsoft products will be sufficient for any medical purposes or meet the health or medical requirements of any person. Prompts must relate to searching, summarizing, editing and/or creating content. In the UK, Dragon Copilot is self-certified as a Class I Device.
Work with Note Assist
Note Assist enables you to work on your note, query medical codes, request information related to the current patient encounter and create supporting documents. It analyzes the note and transcript of the current session, if available, for its response. Note Assist also works with new sessions, without note or transcript, and can provide generic answers and content.
The following table provides an overview of what you can do with Note Assist:
Capabilities |
Examples |
---|---|
Request information |
"Did the patient mention a history of asthma?" "What medications does the patient currently take?" "What are the HCC codes for this note?" "Generate ICD-10 codes for this encounter." |
Edit the note |
"Include more of the patient's verbiage in the HPI section and put it in quotation marks." "Move diagnosis 3 to number 1." "Add ICD-10 codes to each diagnosis and medication." |
Summarize |
"Summarize the plan in 5th grade English." |
Create content |
"Generate patient education instructions for managing hypertension based on the encounter details." "Draft a referral letter to an oncologist, including HCC codes corresponding to breast cancer, for this patient." "Create a concise APSO note for this visit." |
Note:Â Dragon Copilot doesn't guarantee the accuracy of codes.
For information on how to interact with Note Assist, see: Create a prompt.
Work with Information Assist
Note:Â To use Information Assist, you must first enable it and configure the sources you want to reference.
Information Assist enables you to request information from trusted medical references. It analyzes only the trusted sources enabled in the settings for its response. If you use Information Assist in the context of a session, it also takes the patient context into account in its response by accessing the transcript of the patient encounter.
Examples:
-
"What are the common radiographic findings in this type of arthritis?"
-
"According to the CDC, what are the updated guidelines for COVID-19 vaccination booster doses for individuals who have completed their initial vaccine series?"
-
"Can the patient's medications cause orthostatic hypotension based on Merck Manuals?"
Information Assist responses are identified as such in the response card header. The response card lists the references Dragon Copilot consulted; select a reference in the list to verify information and clarify context. For information on how to interact with Information Assist, see: Create a prompt.

Tips for prompting Information Assist
-
By default, the wording of your prompt determines whether it's processed by Note Assist or Information Assist. To make your intent clear, direct your prompt only at Information Assist by saying or typing Information Assist, Info Assist, or @InfoAssist in your prompt. Alternatively, turn on Use Information Assist only below the prompt field to direct all prompts to Information Assist only until you turn off that option again.
-
Ask specific questions, ideally one at a time, to get precise answers: "What are the recommended tests for Lyme disease?"
-
Use clear and established medical terms to ensure an accurate response: "What are the guidelines for the timing of invasive angiography in patients with NSTEMI according to MSD Manuals?"
-
Include the patient context by using phrases like "for this patient": "What is the next step for this patient to reduce statin related muscle pain?"
-
Mention a particular reference to have Dragon Copilot prioritize information from this source: "Can this patient continue birth control pills based on guidance from Merck Manuals?"
-
If you're not interested in responses from a particular source, deselect it in your Information Assist settings.
Save your prompt to the library
If you use the same prompt on a regular basis, you can save it to your library. After you've entered your prompt in the prompt field at the bottom, do one of the following:
-
In the response card that's opened if you're not on the Timeline tab, select the vertical ellipsis icon and select Save prompt.
-
In the prompt/response dialog on the Timeline tab, hover over the prompt and select the save icon . The New prompt form in the library is opened; make sure you fill in all required fields, then select Save.
To execute such a previously saved prompt, select the library iconÂ
