Dictate into your note

Sometimes, the patient conversation that Microsoft Dragon Copilot uses to generate the note doesn't cover all the information you want included in the note. You can dictate into the note before and after Dragon Copilot has created a note based on your ambient recording. For example:

  • Before the patient comes in for their visit, you pre-chart parts of the note, for example, their past medical history.

  • The patient shared some relevant information with you right at the end of their visit, and this information wasn't captured by the ambient recording. You update the relevant note section after the patient has left.

Depending on your license, ambient recording also might not be available to you. In that case, you need to dictate the entire note yourself.

To dictate into your note, do the following:

  1. Create a new session, if needed.

  2. Select the Note tab.

  3. Navigate to the relevant note section.

  4. Select the dictation icon  Microphone-24 at the bottom left and start speaking. Alternatively, press the record button on your microphone or use the configured keyboard shortcut. The icon changes to indicate that recording is on:  Microphone-active-24

  5. When you're finished, select the dictation icon Microphone-active-24, press the record button on your microphone or use the configured keyboard shortcut.

Note: If you're working with Dragon Copilot web or embedded, the keyboard shortcut to start/stop dictation only works if Dragon Copilot has the window focus. If you're working with the desktop app, the keyboard shortcut works regardless of where the window focus is.

Important: If you start an ambient recording with a pre-charted note, the note is updated based on the transcript of the recording, and some or all of your pre-charted note might be overwritten. To see what has been changed, compare the two versions of the note.

Apply prompts or insert texts in your note

To apply a prompt or insert a text, say the spoken form of the prompt or text, or select the library icon  library icon to the right of a section heading and select a prompt or text. Texts are inserted in the section at the cursor position; if the cursor isn't placed in the section, the text is appended at the end of the section.

Note: To open the library, select Manage library at the bottom of the list; to create a new text, select Create text at the bottom of the list.

Review and edit your note

Once Dragon Copilot has processed your ambient recording and created a note based on the transcript, you need to review the note. To open the note for review and editing, the following options are available in Dragon Copilot web, desktop or mobile:

  • Select the Note tab.

  • On the Timeline tab, select the title of the AI content card that logged the creation of the note.

To review and edit the note in Dragon Copilot embedded, open Dragon Copilot in your EHR and select the Note tab. For more information, see the documentation delivered with your EHR or contact your administrator.

You can do the following:

  • Apply one or more prompts to the note, either by selecting them at the bottom or by saying them (for example, Dragon change pronouns to she her). For more information, see: Leverage AI capabilities and Work with prompts.

  • Apply a prompt or insert a text from your library in a section.

  • If you don't have auto-style turned on, select Apply my style at the bottom or say Dragon apply my style to apply your style preferences to the current note.

  • Compare different versions of the note with each other.

  • Compare the note with the transcript of the ambient recording: Select the split view icon  split view icon on the upper right, select the Note tab on one side and the Transcript tab on the other. Split view is not available in Dragon Copilot mobile.

  • Edit the text manually, either by typing or by dictating.

Important: When working with Dragon Copilot embedded, edit the note only in Dragon Copilot. If you edit it directly in your EHR, the link between Dragon Copilot and the EHR is broken for the respective note section. Automatic transfer and manual transfer by selecting Sync to EHR no longer work; you must manually copy and paste the content to your EHR.

Version history

After you've made one or more edits, a new version of the note is created. The latest version is displayed by default, with the Current label right above the note.

To see a previous version, select the version history icon  VersionHistory at the top; in the Version history pane, select View for the version you want to see. To restore this version, select Restore on the upper right. To return to the current version, select Back to current on the upper left. Any versions other than the current one are read-only.

Note: You can also open note versions on the Timeline tab; select the Note title of the AI content card that logged the creation of the version you want to open or select Review changes on that card.

Compare versions

You can display two versions of the note next to each other and compare them. This is particularly helpful for complex notes that required multiple changes.

  • To compare the current and the previous version of the note, select the split view icon  split view icon on the upper right. The current version is displayed on the left, the previous version on the right.

  • To compare an older version of the note with the current one, select the version history icon VersionHistory at the top; in the Version history pane, select the down arrow icon next to View for the version you want to compare and select Compare in split view.

To restore the older version of the note, select Restore on the upper right.

Split view is not available in Dragon Copilot mobile.

Remarks

  • Fields containing AI-generated content are identified by a blue background; if you manually edit the content, the blue background is removed.

  • Additional text displayed in the note sections, such as disclaimers or signatures, can't be edited on the Note tab. To edit it, select the settings icon on the upper right > Style & format > Sections, select the text in the corresponding section and select Edit text.

  • Dragon Copilot mobile only: Select the keyboard icon  MobileKeyboard and use the up arrow icon and down arrow icon to navigate between note sections.

  • Your note edits are automatically saved every 10 seconds or whenever you leave the Note tab.

  • To provide feedback on the AI-generated note, select the feedback icon on the upper right of the Note tab. For more information, see: Provide feedback.

Transfer your note

You can transfer the note you created in Dragon Copilot to anywhere in your EHR or another app.

Dragon Copilot embedded only: Automatic transfer

Dragon Copilot automatically syncs the content in Dragon Copilot note sections that are associated with sections in your EHR at certain points in your workflow:

  • When a new note is generated following an ambient recording.

  • When Auto-style triggers the generation of a new note version.

If you edit one or more note sections via typing, dictating or executing a prompt, or if you restore to a previous note version, you must sync this content with your EHR manually. There are several manual sync and copy actions available on the Note tab.

Transfer the whole note

Do one of the following:

  • Dragon Copilot embedded only: Select Sync to EHR on the toolbar.

  • Select Copy all at the top, then place the cursor where you want the note to be inserted and paste.

  • Dragon Copilot desktop only: Place the cursor where you want the note to be inserted, then select Transfer all at the top, say transfer all, or press the transfer button on your microphone.

Transfer individual note sections

Do one of the following:

  • Select the copy icon  to the right of the section heading, then place the cursor where you want the section to be inserted and paste.

  • Select the check boxes to the left of the section headings, select the down arrow icon next to Copy all at the top and select Copy selected. Place the cursor where you want the sections to be inserted and paste.

  • Dragon Copilot desktop only: Place the cursor where you want the sections to be inserted and select the check boxes to the left of the section headings. Then select Transfer selected at the top or say transfer selected.

  • Dragon Copilot desktop only: Place the cursor where you want the section to be inserted and say transfer followed by the name of the section you want to transfer. For example, say transfer History of Present Illness. For a list of section names and their alternatives, see: Navigate to note sections.
