What's new in Microsoft Teams Public Preview & Targeted Release

Choose your notification location

Customize where Teams for web notifications appear. In Teams, select Settings and more  > Settings  > Notifications and activity . Under Display > Position on the screen, choose where you want to see notifications.

Declined an invite? Mute the meeting chat

Now, when you decline a meeting invitation, you won’t receive notifications for the meeting chat or see it in your chat list. Accept a meeting to stay in the loop with all relevant communications. To learn more, see Manage your calendar in Microsoft Teams.

Transcription for multilingual meetings

Meeting organizers can now enable multilingual speech recognition in meeting options, allowing each participant to set their spoken language. Each participant will see the transcript in their own language. Available for organizers with Copilot or Teams Premium licenses. Intelligent recap for multilingual meetings

Catch up on discussions when multiple languages were spoken with intelligent recap, now supporting multilingual meetings. The recap appears in the language you chose for live transcription and captions. Available with Copilot and Teams Premium licenses. To learn more, see Recap in Microsoft Teams.

Check your mic volume in meetings

The new mic volume indicator in Teams meetings helps you see your audio levels in real time and ensure people in the meeting can hear you.

Share files easier and faster

Quickly share files from chat, the Shared tab, or channel posts to other chats and channels. File permissions are maintained when shared, so recipients always have the correct access. No more typos with enhanced spell check

Catch potential errors while you type in the compose box. Choose a correction in the dropdown menu, ignore, or add the flagged word to your dictionary. With multi-language support, switch between up to three languages to communicate effectively with anyone. To learn more, see Chat with others in Microsoft Teams.

Updated Notes pane in meetings

The Notes pane in Teams meetings is now more streamlined for clarity and organization. The header is now simply Notes, matching the meeting control, and options like Open in new window and Copy component are combined into a single header. To learn more, see Take meeting notes in Microsoft Teams.

Private coaching in the Queues app

Authorized users can start monitoring sessions with selected agents for private coaching. They can listen to customer calls, whisper privately to agents, and barge into or takeover the call. To learn more, see Use the Queues app for Microsoft Teams.

Customize your video feed in Teams meetings

Now, in the new VDI solution for Teams, you can blur your background, choose a virtual background in Teams, or upload your own custom background image. To learn more, see Apply video filters in Microsoft Teams meetings.

Copilot gets smarter with screen-shared content

Copilot in Teams now analyzes content shared on-screen during recorded meetings. Prompt Copilot to summarize or find specific details and insights from both the conversation and presentation. Edit your display name in meetings

Customize your presence during a Teams meeting by editing your display name. Your edited name will remain throughout the duration of the meeting. To change your name, select People  in your meeting controls. In the Participants pane, hover over your name and select More options  > Edit display name. Enter a name and select Save.

DVR in town halls

Attending a town hall is more flexible than ever with new DVR capabilities. No need to wait for the recording—pause, rewind, or skip forward in previously streamed content during the event. To learn more, see Attend a town hall in Microsoft Teams.

Storyline in Teams

Connect with colleagues and leadership from your org right in Teams with Storyline. Discover and express perspectives in shared content, receive leadership announcements, and more. To learn more, see Storylines in Viva Engage.

Forward messages with app cards

Share messages that contain app cards by hovering over the message and selecting More options > Forward ​​​​​​​. To learn more, see Forward a message in Microsoft Teams.

Set the scene in Together mode

Meeting organizers can now preview scenes and assign seats in Together mode before applying them to the meeting. To learn more, see Use video in Microsoft Teams.

Keep shared content confidential

If a file with higher sensitivity is shared in a meeting, the meeting's sensitivity can update automatically or the organizer can be notified. Available with M365 E5 and Teams Premium licenses when admins enable label inheritance policies. To learn more, see Sensitivity labels for Teams meetings.

Tailor your Activity feed to you

In your Teams activity feed, apply the @Mentions filter to see your personal mentions or the Tag mentions filter to see any tag mentions that included you.

Preview files where they’re shared

Select Preview to see a shared file’s content without leaving the chat or channel it was shared in. To learn more, see Share files in Microsoft Teams.

Meeting transcription enhancements

Check out these updates to the transcription experience in meetings:

• Simpler settings: Select Transcript > Language settings > Meeting spoken language for meeting language and translation settings.

• Better transcription accuracy: People will be prompted to select the spoken language when turning on meeting transcription, recording, or Copilot.

• Access to spoken language settings: Only the meeting organizer, co-organizers, and person who initiated the transcript can change the spoken language.

• Mismatched language notifications: The organizer, co-organizers, and transcript initiator will be notified if someone speaks a different language than the one selected in the spoken language settings.

A smarter way to recap events

Intelligent recap is now available after Teams town halls and webinars. Organizers, co-organizers, and presenters can browse the event recording by speakers and topics and access AI-generated notes, tasks, and name mentions. End events for everyone with one click

When an organizer or presenter selects the new End event button during a town hall, webinar, or structured meeting, attendees will see a message that the session has concluded, and presenters will return to the green room.

New ways to resize Teams windows

More compact window sizes and layouts are here to help you multitask across different Teams apps. Resize windows and view them side by side to prioritize what’s most important to you.

See clearly with super resolution

Automatically enhance incoming video feeds for more clarity by turning on super resolution. In your meeting controls, select the dropdown arrow next to Camera and select More video effects and settings > Settings. Then, turn on the Enhance with super resolution toggle.

More meeting multitasking

When you select Chat , Notes , or Copilot * in your meeting controls, select Open in new window  to pop the content out into a separate window. Open multiple windows to keep meeting content in view without switching between them in your meeting controls. Resize and move the windows on your screen for better focus and productivity.

*Copilot is available with Teams Premium or M365 Copilot licenses.

Choose your notification location

Customize where notifications appear on your screen in Teams to reduce disruptions while you work. In Teams, select Settings and more  > Settings  > Notifications and activity . Under Display > Position on the screen, choose where you want your notifications to pop up. Available on Teams desktop for Windows.

Your breakout room, your choice

In meetings with breakout rooms, you can now choose which breakout room to join. Select Rooms  in your meeting controls and select Join next to a room to enter it. To learn more, see Use breakout rooms in Microsoft Teams meetings.

Less limits on content forwarding in Teams

Now, you can forward Loop components and app cards across Teams, as well as messages to and from channels. Hover over what you want to share and select​​​​​​​ More options  > Forward . To learn more, see Forward a message in a Teams chat.

Save time with instant hyperlinks

Create hyperlinks with fewer clicks and less time. When you compose a message, highlight the text you want to hyperlink and paste the link you want to insert. It’s that simple! To learn more, see Send a file, picture, or link in Microsoft Teams.

Recap instant meetings and calls

Quickly review highlights from instant Teams calls and meetings with intelligent recap. After the call or meeting ends, open the chat and select View recap in the meeting thumbnail. Take control during screen sharing in Teams for web

When someone shares their screen in a meeting on Teams for web, select Take control  to interact directly with shared content. Collaborate on documents, transition presentations, and more. To learn more, see Present content in Microsoft Teams meetings.

Record your name pronunciation in Teams

Help others pronounce your name correctly by recording your name pronunciation in Teams. When someone hovers over your profile picture or name in Teams, they can select the speaker icon next to your name to listen to the recording. Join meetings faster in Teams for web

New performance improvements help you join a meeting faster when you join a Teams meeting on Edge or Chrome web browsers.

Your favorite M365 calendar features, now in Teams

Switch to the new Teams calendar for an enhanced scheduling and planning experience. Explore new calendar views, customizations, and much more. To get started, select Calendar ​​​​​​​in Teams and turn on the New Calendar toggle. Switch between the original and new calendar experiences anytime.

Enjoy fresh scenery in Mesh

Change up your view in Mesh with Project Studio, a new environment now available in Teams public preview. To learn more, see Get started with immersive spaces in Teams.

Event transcript improvements

Now, event organizers can download a webinar or town hall transcript from the event recording page. Transcripts also now include RTMP-In 708 captions from the event.

Take control of your voice and face data

Now, instead of Teams admins, you’re in control of downloading and sharing your voice and face recognition data. To export this data, go to Settings and more  > Settings  > Recognition  in Teams. If the data is available, select Export.

Host Mesh events with people outside your org

Invite guests outside your org to Mesh events in Teams for more immersive collaboration and networking experiences. Guests with Mesh licenses, such as Teams Premium, can join Mesh events from their PC. Support for guests joining anonymously or from the Mesh app on Meta Quest coming soon. Connect across rooms in multi-room Mesh events

Attendees can now see attendee reactions and raised hands in different rooms during a multi-room Mesh event. Event hosts can also move between all the rooms, making it easier to connect with different groups. To learn more, see Produce an event in Mesh.

Chat in Microsoft Teams town halls

Encourage engagement between event attendees, presenters, and co-organizers by using chat, now available in Teams town halls. Select Chat  in the meeting controls to join the conversation. To learn more, see Chat in a town hall in Microsoft Teams.

Chat privately in a town hall with event group chat

A private event group chat between organizers, co-organizers, and presenters is now available in Teams town halls. Chat in an event group chat before, during, and after a town hall. Event group chats can't be seen by attendees. To learn more, see Chat in a town hall in Microsoft Teams.

Apply filters when searching for content related to specific people

Search a name in the Teams search bar and select Messages, Files, Group chats, or Teams and Channels below the search bar to filter results related to that person. When you chose a filter, you'll only see results for that content type.

Sensitivity labels in Teams events

Add an extra layer of security to a Teams webinar or town hall if confidential information will be shared by adding a sensitivity label. To add a label, open the event in your Teams calendar. In Details, select Sensitivity​​​​​​​and choose a label from the dropdown menu. To learn more, see Sensitivity labels for Teams meetings.

Balance language interpretation volume

Balance language interpretation volume to hear more interpreted audio or original audio. In your meeting controls, select More actions > Language and speech > Language interpretation . Then, select a language and adjust the Balance volume slider. To learn more, see Use language interpretation in Microsoft Teams meetings.

Turn off town hall and webinar emails

When you schedule a town hall or webinar, you can turn off Teams attendee emails before publishing the event. In the scheduling form, go to Setup > Details and turn the Enable attendee emails toggle off. This setting can't be changed after the event is published. Intelligent meeting recap notifications in Teams

Get notified when an intelligent meeting recap is ready to view and select the notification to go right to it. To manage the notification settings, select Settings and more  > Settings  in Teams. Then, select Notifications and activity ​​​​​​​> Apps > Meeting Recap. Intelligent recap features are available with Teams Premium or a Copilot for Microsoft 365 license. Find people and content faster with enhanced search

Type a person's name and a keyword in the Teams search bar for relevant suggestions that help you quickly find the content you need.

Teams app icon in the Mac menu bar

Take quick actions from the new Teams app icon in the Mac menu bar. Select the Teams app icon to change your presence status, start a new chat, and more. To learn more, see Take quick actions in Microsoft Teams from a Mac.

New minimized presenter window

When you share content in a Teams meeting, your meeting window will minimize to a smaller view. See how your shared content appears to others, view raised hands, and more. To learn more, see Present content in Microsoft Teams meetings.

Make emoji your own with your preferred skin tone

In a chat or channel post compose box, select Emoji, GIF and Stickers  > Emoji > Hand gestures . Then, right-click an emoji and select a skin tone. To learn more, see Send an emoji, GIF, or sticker in Microsoft Teams.

Translate back and forth between two languages

Now, translators can switch their translation direction during a Teams meeting. Interpreters can translate between two languages by choosing the language they're currently speaking at the bottom of the screen. To learn more, see Use language interpretation in Microsoft Teams meetings.

Copilot now considers meeting chat in responses

When you prompt Copilot in a meeting, it will now base its responses on both the meeting transcript and chat. To learn more, see Use Copilot in Microsoft Teams meetings.

"Files" tab in chat is now "Shared"

Select Shared, previously called Files, in a Teams chat to view content shared in that conversation. Browse files, recordings, and web links that have been sent to you or by you in that chat.

Rename a team's general channel

You can now rename your team's general channel to better reflect your team's needs and make it easier to find in the teams and channels list. Team owners and members with the appropriate permissions can rename the general channel. To learn more, see Manage team settings and permissions in Microsoft Teams.

Same chat, more details

The new chat details pane gives you all the info you need, without leaving the conversation. Just open a Teams chat and select Open chat details  to view pinned messages, search for specifics, and more.

Time detection in Copilot chats

Need updates or highlights from a specific timeframe? Copilot can help with that. Try it out by asking "What were the highlights from last month?" To learn more, see Use Copilot in Microsoft Teams chat and channels.

Minimized meeting window improvements

When you minimize your meeting window or start presenting, you can now view up to four participants in the presenter window. You can also completely minimize or expand the presenter window. To learn more, see Enhanced presenter and attendee experience with the expanded gallery view in Teams.

Streamlined feedback experience

Now, when you submit feedback or suggest a feature in Teams desktop or web, it'll be through the Cloud Policy service for Microsoft 365 instead of the Microsoft Teams policies for a more efficient feedback process. To learn more, see Give feedback in Microsoft Teams.

Find shared content in chat

Quickly access shared links and files in a Teams chat by selecting the Shared tab. Use the search bar to find specific content, or filter results by selecting the Recent, Files, or Links tabs.

Show or hide the Discover feed

To show or hide the Discover feed in your channels list, select Settings and more   > Settings  and turn the Show Discover in your channel list toggle on or off.

Your emoji just got personal

Customize and upload your own unique emoji in Teams to react with or send in chat. To upload a custom emoji, select Emoji, GIFs, and Stickers  in a message compose box. Then, select Emoji > Your org's emoji  > Add emoji . Choose an image or GIF file and select Add emoji.

Search results now include chat messages

When you search in Teams, the results will now include messages. Filter the results to show messages only by pressing the Enter key and selecting Messages beneath the search bar. To learn more, see Search for messages and more in Microsoft Teams.

Keep inactive channels hidden

Teams now automatically detects and hides your inactive channels. To view hidden channels, select Teams  and select See all channels under a team. Select Hidden to see the team's hidden channels. Manage which channels you see by hovering over a channel and selecting Show or Hide.

Don't miss a file

Files attached to a meeting invite in Microsoft Outlook for Windows or Outlook for web are now visible in your Teams calendar on the desktop app.

Presenter orderability for webinars

Customize the order in which webinar presenters are shown on the event page. Just open the event details from your Teams calendar and select Setup > Presenter bios. Then, drag the names in the order you want. To learn more, see Customize a webinar in Microsoft Teams.

Control your channel notifications

Fine-tune the chatter in your channels by (1) opting out of notifications of all subsequent updates in a channel conversation in which you've participated, or (2) opting in to get notified of updates to a conversation in which you haven't previously participated. Select More options   next to a channel post and turn on/off notifications for the rest of the messages in that thread. To learn more, see Customize channel notifications in Microsoft Teams.

All the channel information, all in one place

Get a quick overview about a channel using channel cards, available on Teams for desktop and web. Hover over a channel name in the header or wherever a channel is mentioned to see the channel description, the time of last activity, the team name, and info about members. Channel cards also provide a shortcut to notification settings, owner channel management, and the channel roster.

Set custom sound notifications

To help you stay focused, prioritize tasks and messages quickly, and avoid distractions, you can now adjust the sound on your Teams notifications. Assign different sounds to different kinds of notifications, such as urgent messages, or mute notification sounds when you’re busy or in a meeting. Go to Settings and more  at the top right of Teams and find options to customize your notification sounds in the Notifications and activity menu.
