Note: Sensitive content detection is available as part of Teams Premium, an add-on license that provides additional features to make Teams meetings more personalized, intelligent, and secure. To get access to Teams Premium, contact your IT admin.

Prevent accidental sharing of sensitive information while screen sharing with sensitive content detection, available in Microsoft Teams meetings.

Sensitive content detection

When someone shares their screen during a meeting with sensitive content detection turned on, Teams automatically scans the shared content for sensitive information like credit card or account numbers.

If sensitive content is detected, both the presenter and the meeting organizer will be notified. The presenter will also be prompted to stop sharing their screen in case the content was shared unintentionally.

Sensitive content detection supports the following sensitive content:

  • Credit card numbers

  • EU Driver’s License numbers

  • US bank account numbers

  • EU Social Security numbers

  • US Social Security numbers

  • EU National Identification numbers

  • US/UK passport numbers

  • EU debit card numbers

  • US Individual Taxpayer ID numbers

  • EU Tax Social Security numbers

  • ABA routing numbers

Notes: 

  • Sensitive content detection doesn’t detect sensitive content in non-English languages or fast-moving shared content.

  • Sensitive content detection doesn’t support the following sharing options: Microsoft Whiteboard, Content from camera, PowerPoint Live, Excel Live, or Browse my computer.

Turn on sensitive content detection

Turn sensitive content detection on before a meeting starts. If you turn sensitive content detection on after a meeting starts, the setting won't take effect unless everyone leaves and rejoins the meeting.

To turn on sensitive content detection:

  1. Select Calendar Teams Calendar tab icon in Teams.

  2. Double-click an upcoming event.

  3. Select Edit Edit icon.

    • If you double-clicked an instance of a meeting series, select whether you want to edit This event, This and all following events, or All events in the series.

  4. Select Meeting options Settings icon.

  5. In Advanced protection Privacy settings button, turn the Detect sensitive content during screen sharing toggle on.

  6. Select Save.

Note: End-to-end encryption isn’t available in meetings with sensitive content detection.
