Follow threads to get updates when there are new replies to a channel message or post you’re following. Threads can be followed automatically or manually, depending on your settings.

Follow a thread

You automatically follow a thread if:

  • You started the thread.

  • You replied in the thread.

  • You were @mentioned in the thread.

To manually follow a thread:

  • From a message: Hover over a message, select More options Ellipsis icon > Follow thread Icon for following a thread in the Threads layout in Teams.

  • From the main conversation: Hover over existing replies on a thread, then select Follow thread Icon for following a thread in the Threads layout in Teams.

  • From the right pane thread view: At the top, select More thread options Ellipsis icon, then select Follow thread Icon for following a thread in the Threads layout in Teams.

See all your followed threads in one place

Go to Followed threads Icon for following a thread in the Threads layout in Teams at the top of your list of chats and channels. You’ll see a preview of each thread you follow, with threads with the most recent replies at the top. Threads with new unread replies appear in bold.

Threads are organized like an email inbox, so it’s easy to focus on what matters. Select a thread to expand it and reply.

In the Followed threads view from the More options Ellipsis icon menu, you can:

  • Unfollow a thread.

  • Mark a post or message as unread.

  • Go to the conversation, which takes you to the channel.

  • Open the thread in a new window.

Tip: Filter Followed threads by unread only so it’s easier to stay up to date.
