Viva Engage public content is automatically available as a grounding source for Microsoft 365 Copilot. By referencing conversational knowledge from across your organization, this integration enables Copilot to provide richer, more contextual responses. Copilot usage of Engage content doesn't affect the appearance or availability of Engage content.

What public Engage content includes

Copilot experiences use the following Engage content types for grounding in conversational knowledge for your queries:

  • Q&A posts from public communities and Answers.

  • Discussion posts from public communities.

  • Posts from Storylines.

Tip: Only content that users have permission to view is eligible for grounding.

How it works

Microsoft 365 Copilot experiences can use Viva Engage content as a grounding source for AI-driven responses. Copilot Chat (free version) doesn’t support this capability.

Licensing Requirements

✅ The Microsoft 365 Copilot license is required for users to access Microsoft 365 Copilot.

❌ Users don't need a Viva Engage license to see Copilot responses that are grounded in Engage content.

Access & Permissions

Copilot only grounds Copilot responses in Viva Engage content that the user has permission to access. Doing so ensures alignment with your organization's data security and compliance policies.

Note: Only public Viva Engage communities are supported at this time. Content from private communities is not yet available for Copilot grounding.
